Explore Italy & Greece
Florence, Rome, Athens & Crete
July 2–23, 2017
*Online class sessions will take place during June 2017
Explore Italy and Greece this July on a special program designed so you can experience the incredible culture and atmosphere of Europe’s two most sun-drenched countries.
Begin your Mediterranean odyssey in the heart Tuscany and the centre of the Renaissance: Florence. Renowned for art and fashion, Florence is a perfect introduction to Italy’s rich culture. Private guides will show you the palaces and sites of political intrigue from the time of the Medici family when both Michelangelo and Botticelli were sponsored by the city’s rulers. This is the home of Gucci and Ferragamo; incredible Italian style is on display everywhere, including the amazing leather markets where you can shop for jackets, handbags and souvenirs. A day-trip to Venice will have you travelling down the Grand Canal, taking selfies in Piazza San Marco and walking across the “Bridge of Sighs”!
Discover Rome, “The Eternal City” at the Colosseum and Forum where you will literally walk in the footsteps of Julius Caesar. Spend a morning at the Vatican and marvel at the countless treasures and works of art including the stunning Sistine Chapel and immense St. Peter’s Basilica. While in Rome, dine at authentic Italian trattorias, scour the city for the perfect gelato, listen to street buskers at the Spanish Steps, and generally live “la dolce vita” at a fantastic 4-star hotel located in the fashionable Via Cavour district.
After leaving Italy travel across the Ionian Sea to Greece, the birthplace of democracy and home of heroes like Achilles, Odysseus and Hercules. Athens, the city of legends, is a wonderful combination of bustling modern city woven amongst the most magnificent archeological sites in the world. A guided tour of the Acropolis, archaeology museum and the vibrant Plaka district will be unforgettable. While in Athens, you’ll stay at a 4-star hotel centrally located close to the major central square.
No trip to Greece is complete without visiting the Islands! For the final leg of your journey, stay on the fabulous island of Crete, situated in the Greek archipelago and famous as the location for King Minos’s palace of Knossos and the mythical minotaur. From a beachfront resort you’ll enjoy a multitude of activities, as well as visiting picturesque 17th century fishing villages. Swim in the resort pool, lie on the sandy beach, eat delicious food and have the time of your life!
